just looking at these from book depository (http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/search?searchRefined=true&searchTerm=atlas&page=1&searchAddedTerm=childrens+atlas)... would be much easier to flip through some in store though i think. I want one that might show the animals and people and culture in each area as well as good geographic pictures for kids...

Anyone have an atlas they love for kids aged under 10?

we have the DK Children's Atlas. It's really good for small kids but we have had it a long time so not sure if its still around.

DK books are usually pretty good, although I find them a bit overwhelming with too much info on each page. My sister though, loves them, so if you already have the dictionary and love it, you'll probably like it.

We have the Collins Children's pictorial atlas, and it's OK. I wouldn't say it was brilliant though.

I plan on just printing out world maps, and reading books on each culture/country etc myself. There are a lot of good printable maps online, and kids can colour and label them themselves (stick on if they can't write yet). I also have this ambitious plan to make an applique map to put on the floor and play on, arrange toys on etc. (OK, so I really need to actually DO some of this some time...)

my kids don't value or seem to enjoy printed out pages. But that DK picture dictionary even Darcy just sits absorbed by it for ages and almost nothing calms him down. He loves the pictures of all the different sorts of things (we HAVE to turn to the page with the donkey, dolphin and dog each time we start though). So i don't mind spending money on an altas and maybe one quality reference book for them.

It's funny how different kids can be isn't it? Ezri finds one printed page much easier to absorb than a whole book, especially if it's something that she has worked on herself. I definately think it's worth spending the money on quality books though (as per my book obsession thread, LOL).
