What are the benefits of Manuka Honey? My Mum brought some home a few weeks ago and I'm not sure what to do with it :2lol

Is it any good for extremely dry skin? I've heard it is good for sores and bites and things but wondering what else I can use it for
How do I use it? It says to take a couple of teaspoons a day on the container....

Eat it! It is the best tasting honey in the world!

You can also use it medicinally as you have mentioned... but I would just enjoy it on toast or whatever!

What's so different about Manuka honey compared to normal honey? I know it's got the medicinal thing going on, but what makes it so special?

Its made by bees who collect the necter/pollen whatever from Ti Trees.

Really? I've always thought there was more to it than that! There is a honey man at the markets and he has heaps of different types. So far we've only tried Brushbox but he's got Macadamia, Wattle, Tea Tree and a couple of others all local to this area. We're due for more honey next week so will have to give the Tea Tree a taste. He gives out samples on little plastic spoons, I can't wait to try Macadamia!

The 'tea tree' honey is not the same as manuka from NZ... The manuka honey is richer in texture, colour and taste than any other honey I know and I struggle to find an Australian honey I like. And then there are the different types of manuka honey too...

It makes sense that the honey made from manuka and ti tree are medicinal... both the Maori and Aboriginals have traditional medicinal use for those trees through 'smudging' and making teas and tinctures, for example. The ti tree/manuka essential oils are also powerful oils... I haven't heard of the same versatility of uses from clover (some clover can be used in herbal medicine) or wattle!

I have brought honey back before (I declared it) but it would just take a phone call to customs or check the website to get any updated info.

Ahh, so Tea Tree I get from the markets here isn't Manuka, but would still have some of the medicinal properties?

I don't know how much of the medicinal properties... depends on how pure, how it is processed etc too. I guess the darker and richer and thicker the honey, the more likely it is to have some sort of medicinal qual.
