Mine has had a work out this week. Buttermilk bread and scones, butter (duh), frozen cocktails :blushing, frozen yoghurt "icecream" as well as the usual stuff... loving it! :D

Of course this thread needed reviving! I wonder if we need to sticky all the important links and info for it? LOL
Hmmm, yesterday mexe-beans and mushroom risotto whilst a friend was visiting (she so, so wants one). Been using mine in cheese and sour cream making (excess milk) 'cos I can bring to a certain temp and hold for a certain time etc. Easy peasy.
Oh, here's one I'm still sipping...
Coffee Liqueur (http://belcooks.blogspot.com/2009/09/coffee-liqueur.html)
Ingredients:
390g raw sugar
370g hot water
30g instant freeze-dried coffee
500g vodka
1 large vanilla bean
Method:
Grind sugar on speed 9 for 30 seconds. Add hot water and coffee. Mix on 100 degrees, speed 4 for 1 min 30 sec. Slice vanilla bean in half, lengthwise and then each half into quarters. Add vanilla pieces and vodka to TMX bowl. Heat at 60 degrees, speed 3 for 8 minutes.
Pour into a glass bottle and sit for 4 days. Strain and pour into same bottle (will need approx 2L size). Store in a cool, dark place. Enjoy!
If you don't have a Thermomix, this could be made on the stovetop or microwave by basically following the steps above and stirring over low-medium heat.
I have no idea of the resulting alcohol content of this liqueur.

LOL!
Thermomix thread, oh how I missed you.
I'm back from doing a demo tonight. It was a fun demo, but I'm shattered - it's hard work.
Cooked Pad Thai from Cyndi's TMX cookbook last night. It was good. And so easy. Adding it to regulars.
We still do porridge 3 different ways in the mornings. Honey coconut quinoa porridge for me. Apple, oat and sultana porridge with yogurt mixed in for DH and regular porridge for the kids.
DH started making the most beautiful ice cream. Frozen banana's, frozen strawberries and a bit of homemade (in the rtmx of course) vanilla yogurt. Smooth creamy dessert. SM, were you telling my DH about it at Jodie's, or did he overhear you talking about it? Who cares, it's devine!
I have the busiest month every TMX business wise. I am booked up with a demo a week (sometimes 2 a week) til mid Nov. It's insane. I've got heaps of enquiries coming in too!
Tonight I sold a tmx to a lady who had a TM21 back in the UK that she bought in the 80's and was using up until she came to Australia two years ago. Now she wants the new model. But it was so interesting talking to her about her old machine :)

Well, I've found the perfect use for Thermie. As part of my "kick start my crappy endocrine system" thing, I'm back on InLiven as well as a liver detox powder from the Naturopath. I did used to struggle getting the InLiven down, but half an apple, half a kiwifruit, a couple of strawberries & a few frozen mixed berries, a few ice cubes, a bit of water & the 2 powders. YUMMOOOOO!!! Super yummy!! Twice a day...mmmmm
I made my first ever batch of fresh pasta last night & was really happy with the result. I tried making the creamy vanilla icecream from the EDC. It tasted nice, but didn't really freeze very hard, so melted almost as soon as I scooped it out. More prawn & asparagus risotto (:drool), lots of soup, getting good with bread, ummmm...and various other stuff I can't recall right now. Going to try some raw choc soon. I've had the ingredients for a while, but haven't put them all together yet.

Chelle, you do need one! :p Make jam without stirring! ;)
Aleza, TMX would be perfect in the bus, honestly! And with all those different meals you need to cook - priceless... The other day I had 2 meals ready to go in under half an hour (mexe beans, salad, etc was one, and mushroom risotto the second one - then out the door with the risotto for my meeting and the others LOVED the meal I left behind).
I've been out of the house all day and came home to a non-TMX meal and then looked at it tonight and felt a little sad 'cos I hadn't used it today. I missed my TMX. How's that for customer satisfaction? ROFL

Harmony, are you still making yoghurt in yours'? If so, do you use a normal thermos to set it in, or a yoghurt maker like Easiyo?
I'm a failed yoghurt maker at present, I kept not following the recipe properly and it wouldn't work The one batch that did work was fine, in the easiyo container. I've gone back to easiyo until such time I have the mental energy to do it right often enough to do it on autopilot. I can usually make custard like that, but today I forgot the sugar and it was chocolate, so, really bitter!!!
Didn't get the bikkies done, we got busy outside!
Vegies chopped a little too fine for the stirfry, but it was nice! Good to get the garlic and ginger so, so fine.
Rushed in around 6pm and threw pumpkin soup ingred into TMX and put the rice cooker on. Heated bread. Threw fish on the BBQ. Started the wok. Served soup & bread entree with a glass of wine. Then rice, fish fillets, stir-fry veg. And while we ate that I whipped up custard in the TMX, served with stewed rhubarb. Three course meal and I rushed in at 6pm!?
We have our last (for awhile) WWOOFer still here, and my Mum and stepdad have arrived - that's 5 adults and 6 kids. Made a pasta bake from the TM Vego cookbook tonight, served with vegetables. Enough for all of us and delish! This morning we were late for a bring-a-plate lunch party so I whipped up mushroom risotto in the TM while I got ready. Took it in the Thermoserver and it was piping hot and YUM at lunch time!

They are really that good. I put off getting one for a year - too expensive, can't cook enough for us all in one go, another bloody appliance, blah, blah. But from the first day (or second, I was sick when it arrived) I have used and used and used and used my Thermomix for so many things. It saves me time and money and creates healthy food for my family. The price is so justified (for me), it cooks enough for us 8 and more, and it replaces other appliances which weren't good enough and/or a pain to clean. :)
Snoozie, Kaoss can tell you what to expect from the demo I reckon! ;)

I need to book in a date with Kaoss. I'm > < this close to buying one, I just need to have a little closer inspection.
I've been saying I think my body really needs a TMX. I cook a meal for DS and DD, then I spend hours trying to find something else that DD will actually eat, then I end up not having the time, energy or inclination to cook myself anything decent.
I think you can only live on baked beans, frozen vegies and toast for so long.
I really don't enjoy cooking so I'm hoping I will use it, and actually get some proper meals I can cook that won't need to carry a health warning.
Oh and hopefully a nearby friend will come play with me and my new toy.

Bec, when I used to do my organic order every 3 months I'd buy a carton of 12 baked beans and they'd be long gone before the 3 months were up. Since getting the TMX, the "emergency" baked beans have lasted well over 3 months this time because there's so many other options when I have very little time. :)
It doesn't really feel like 'cooking' so much 'cos you don't have to be there - stick it on and wait for the beep! So I reckon it'd appeal to non-cooks as much as others.

OMG! I wasn't subscribed to this thread and I missed all these posts!
Where to start.....
Lets go for the "what to expect from a demo question". Well, there is a little bit of talking about the machine, then a whole lot of food preparation. 6 dishes will be prepared in front of you and then you get to eat it! I was drawn to demonstrating because there is no pressuring people to buy, showing off the machine and letting it speak for itself. If you've already got two people to come along, then that is a great start :) Maybe another one or two would be perfect :)
Merc, I will definitely come and do a demo for you. You can see, touch, play and experience and make up your mind from there. But really, if you are having to prepare so much different food, you need one ;) Also, it's so easy to use, maybe your DS will learn to make some of his own food (my 5yo makes his own porridge in the morning, and has a dinner recipe that he can do, so it can't be that hard!)
Was there anything else I missed?
I held a demo at my place yesterday for all people that seemed reluctant to host their own demo - well, I made one sale, and many others now are happy to host a demo (to show their partners and friends) now that they know what a demo is and how un-scary it is :) It was a productive day.
Oh, and for the people that don't like cooking. I sold a TMX to my mum's best friend. She's not a fan of cooking, but when she saw the TMX, she could see how she could make lots of different and interesting meals easily. She loves it!
mama_bel
11-10-2009, 03:42 PM
Having a demo at your place is a great idea, K.
One person who came to my demo (I had 2 large-ish demos) isn't getting one as she can't see how it'd pay for itself and that's a priority for her. They don't have any special dietary needs or preferences (eg: rice milk, alternative grains, etc). Two others are still saving for their Tmxs. Another isn't sure because of the solar power where they live and also their finances right now, though she admits she'd get one in a flash if she had normal/more power and a job right now! And everyone else has bought one! T'is very boring when I'm with my friends for those who don't have one, "Tmx this, Tmx that, blah, blah" LOL

Last night I make tuna and sweet potato patties (adapted from a taste.com recipe) and a thai-style coleslaw to use up a cabbage, some carrot, celery and bean shoots that I had the in the fridge. The dressing was great (from EDC) and the salad was a hit - we don't usually eat that much salad in this household so it was a nice surprise. Overall, an awesome meal :)
This is the link for the tuna patties (http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/2601/tuna+sweet+potato+cakes) but essentially, peel and cut sweet potato, put in TMX and cook and mash, let it cool, add breadcrumbs, tin of tuna, eggs and mix. Hand shape mix into patties and cook on the stove. We serve them with natural yogurt with a little cumin and lemon juice mixed in. Always a hit :)

YUM! I made tuna patties in ours awhile back - nice and easy and less mess!

You'll be making your own recipe book before you know it Kaoss " TMX for Super (complete with Superman logo) busy mums".
I think I'd have more success getting a 5 year old version of DS to use it than a 15 year old one, just as I will probably have trouble getting a 15 year old version of DD to put clothes on the line.
Still, my biggest irk with cooking is chopping up the vegies etc, so I think Thermy might help me with that.
I'd love to have a squiz at a couple of the cookbooks too Kaoss.
Let me know once your moving cyclone ends ok? I've waited this long, I can wait another month.

Tonight, I cooked the Swiss Beef from the TMX forum (basically beef, onion, bacon, rice, beef stock, salt, pepper, parsley), which ends up kinda risotto-like. DD usually picks at her dinner & doesn't eat much of it. Tonight, she screamed when she saw the "yucky brown food", but I bribed her to try some. I can't remember the last time she went back for seconds of anything, but I think this will become a regular meal ;) (served with steamed veg).
I tried a cheese sauce for the first time last night & was really impressed how well it turned out - without me having to make a roux, then stand there stirring the milk in the whole time. Everything in, press buttons, come back when ready. That's my kinda cooking!

I still have a way to go until I can afford one, but I will get there :-)

Anyhoo so I am thinking about talking SIL into hosting my demo at her place, cos her house is brand new and much bigger and nicer than this one, only problem is, she is 35 weeks preg so due to pop any second (bubs is engaged and everything Squee) then we are flat chat til the end of the year so I may have to think more about it next year
One question I do have is, how portable is it? say I got one and wanted to take it to our caravan (cos really there's only so much food you can cook over a teeny tiny hot plate that gets no warmer then a toaster :2lol) I know they are quite compact but wondering if they are heavy? or would I easily be able to transfer it? People take them away with them often, Kyls. I don't take mine anywhere, but my consultant takes hers on holidays with them and of course to every demo she does!

Great deal if you do plan to travel with it. The bag helps protect the scales that are in the feet of the machine. Must have the Demo in Oct and the order in for the bag by the end of the month too.

You can have a demo and not buy right away. The demo will show you if it's for you, or not. Really - you'll see it do a heap of things, taste the food, etc. A good consultant will do a gluten free demo or otherwise cater to your preferences.
With the bread, it also grinds the whole grains to make the flour to make the bread. Some of the flours I buy are expensive, but with the TMX so cheap! Like brown rice flour, for example - under $2/kg from my bulk brown rice (organic) vs $9/kg in 1 kilo packs from my organic supplier. And FRESH! Rice & almond milk is about 25c/L (all organic). Icing sugar is made from raw organic sugar - almond meal, besan flour, choc chips (LOL)... All made from scratch so way cheaper than bought! And never use tins or packets for anything much anymore because it's super fast to make it fresh from scratch.
Blah-blah-blah. Sorry, I can't shut up about it when I start!
I bought mine over 3 months - paid it off in 3 installments. It cost an extra $50 to do this, but I was too impatient to save! So it was like $700+, then $600, then $600.
I just did my online organics order, which I do every couple of months, and it was like "don't need that anymore, don't need that anymore..." All of our sauces, dressings and spreads are made at home, from scratch, for 1/3 of the bought price. And less rubbish (packaging) in our bins, yay! No packet mixes, tins, jars... Everything's so fast and easy to make. Yes, the kids can do it too! :)
Oops, I will shut up...

I cook a meal for DS and DD, then I spend hours trying to find something else that DD will actually eat, then I end up not having the time, energy or inclination to cook myself anything decent. that's one reason i want one. So many of the meals i want to cook for myself have dairy-based sauces or tomato (neither of which Darcy can have) so then i have to make something else for him or i just don't end up cooking stuff i like so much. And Jordy lives on nutrigrain and toast cos he won't eat anything else! So i am hoping i can hide vegies in juices and smoothies cos he'll drink those. And he'll eat sausage rolls so i am hoping i can make my own mince and pastry versions of something...? And invent some kind of baked bean that does not have tomato in it... lots of stuff!! So i guess i do kinda sorta NEED one! LOL!
I really want to have a demo party but no idea how to find the time to drum up interested parties. I wanted to have one last weekend but did not work out. Might try again for the weekend after this one....
Hey, kaoss, any idea what the host discount/freebie is next month! I don't want the carry bag. LOL!

It does juices too? OK Bel, waffle all you want.I'm really interested! The crap packaging we have in this house with special flours and rice milk is hideous. I'd love to get rid of all that. And the cost! I cook all our stuff from scratch, but it takes so much time, I do feel the girls miss out.

Juices, smoothies, risottos, breads, mills flour, crushes ice into sorbet, frozen cocktails (shhhhhhh), cooks rice milk/soy milk or your choice... mixes cake/biscuit mixes etc... grates cheese.. steams foods. I even boil our eggs in it. :2lol
Having kids with multiple food issues isn't fun (ask me - I know how! :rolleyes) but it is much less work for me now and I can't argue with that! :D
Karen's blog (http://brazen20au.blogspot.com/) is helpful for gluten free recipes... and I'm sure Nikki (Harmony) has a few too! ;)

I made pancake batter by hand the other day because the bowl was in the dishwasher (already washing, I have been known to get it out to hand wash it just after it's started or get it out before it's dry, but it was right in the middle of the wash cycle lol!) and bloody hell! It was so hard and took so long :gasp my mixing muscles are all wasted away, I had to change arms about 12 times :rofl
I have the GF cookbook, maybe on the weekend I'll sit down and post a couple of recipes so you can get the feel for it, I don't think I've used any yet, I tend to adapt what we already eat rather than follow the recipe books. Yesterday I browned a kilo of mince and added a gravy for shep pie, then made mashed spud later on. Easy even with a sick baby :)

Today and yesterday have been quiet for Tim...
C made the pasta and tuna dish from the EDC using gluten free pasta...mind you, he ate it all too! :rolleyes
Then I made a batch of passionfruit butter with all the bulk passionfruit pulp I froze from our glut this year. Not bad but I will experiment with another recipe this week if I get time.
Today was the 5 seed bread... about my 8th loaf of it, friend keeps turning up and asking me to make it for her but this is ours. :2lol I make it with fresh yeast and I notice such a difference in the taste and finished result. :yes Should go nice with the passionfruit butter for breakfast. :drool
Orange juice fluff for a treat for the kids too...
Made the beetroot salad as well to use up ingredients... not bad, considering I don't like beetroot.. :whistle
And finally the rhubarb and apple again as the kids love it on their cereal... :D
Gee I'm a good mum. :2lol Just as well they've all been with their father for the weekend. :duck
C has been eyeing off a recipe on the thermomix forum so I guess it won't be long until that appears.....

We've eaten out twice this weekend (very rare) but still used TMX (no name yet sorry) to crush ice, make butter (always making butter), chop onion/garlic/ginger/chilli for stirfry (huge amount - so cooked it in wok instead), beat eggs/tamari mix for stir fry meal - and probably more. :)

Bel has her own cow :D
I made sorbet yesterday but they were oranges from a bulk lot that I froze, they weren't real nice to start with and having been frozen didn't help either, so it doesn't taste too good, luckily H doesn't mind it. Also chicken risotto for lunch. Today I made mash to go with leftover stew for dinner then whipped up a quick batch of custard for dessert.
I keep hearing about this tuna and pasta thing, must try it :lol

:worship2 to the TMX!!!!!!!!!! C: Funnily enough the consultant's name tonight was Tim! lol
Had a great :gathering with people I haven't seen for ages. So impressed. Even DH is impressed and is open to my considering earning one through demonstrating. The consultant is going to get the group leader to give me a call but it actually sounds like one of the better party plans opportunities I've heard of to date. Understandably it's a lot more work to get a sale ($2k IS a lot of money) but they really do sell themselves. From my party I had myself, DH, 2 couples and a singleton. Out of us myself and one couple are wanting one asap, the singleton already has one and is ordering a bag and the other couple was impressed but not in a position at the moment to be thinking about purchasing.
:drool It was the best custard I have EVER had. :drool That was my favourite by far. I also can't believe how easy it was to make the sorbet. It was a big hit. I love risotto so it was a big :thumbup from me... the only thing is I probably would've put more stock(?) in as I found it a little bland. Vege stock prepared earlier in the TMX! It smelt absolutely divine! There was no hommus left at the end of the night... everyone kept going back for more of it. I can't believe how much flavour came from 2 cloves of garlic and the coriander... mmm!!!
I was amazed at the speed of which the beetroot salad manifested. I would never have believed it possible! I have lunch tomorrow already organised... mmm beetroot salad and mushroom risotto. Even DD2 was eating the risotto! Bonus!
Did I cover everything? Oh the bread... I am not sure what happened there... I'm sure I had baking paper but the rolls stuck to it which was a bit sucky... I have a bit of a finicky oven too so they were a tad overdone but still yum.

calling all TMX experts!!
it's crunch time for me at the moment where i have to decide if i am getting one or not. The unexpected vet costs recently have made me realise that even with super careful budgeting there will be lots of things that i will not predict so i am mindful of spending $2K on something not essential.... but i know there will be a lot of savings over time with it... so,
Anyone know if some cost comparisons have been done with it somewhere that i can look at?
I know peanut butter costs about $3 for 500g from the shops, so how much to make your own?
Jams i know will be much cheaper.
Rice milk i pay $2.60 for 1L, so how much rice is needed to make a litre of milk?
If i bought a loaf pan could i make regular slicing bread?
I don't yet have access to milk to make my own butter and yoghurt so that is irrelevant. And i already make my own custard from scratch... don't buy dips although being able to make my own will be nice...
The juice i think is a really plus for me as we don't buy it but would very very much drink it fresh... so there are massive savings there.
How would you tally up the savings that you are making with it? Not just "cheaper" LOL! but a site or list where someone has outlined savings. Or even recipe quantities so i can work it out for myself based on buying brown rice or buying peanuts etc.
soulmama
21-10-2009, 10:14 AM
The brown rice is 50g per litre of milk.
Peanut paste is just peanuts and a bit of sunflower oil... (sorry I don't make it) but there's no waste with it so it depends on the cost of the peanuts.
I make regular slicing bread but it depends on what you and the kids are used to. We like a dense loaf so it's taken a bit of experimenting.
Our prices here are a lot different to NSW and I use organic so it makes it very hard to work out in any form. :neutral
mama_bel
21-10-2009, 11:30 AM
I just bought 3kg of peanuts for $13-something, so that's about equivilant to your peanut butter once you add the little bit of sunflower oil. I always bought the peanut butter with very few additives, so it's much dearer than $3 for 500g to buy for me. I think the home brand one here is like $2-something for 250g, so yours is cheap by comparison.
Jam - I use free fruit and organic raw sugar. It's well under $1 a jar for organic jam, so that's cheap.
Rice milk (I do rice & almond) costs me under 30c/L.
Do you use any other things like rice flour, falafel mix, stock cubes/powder/concentrate, spice mixes, tinned or packet soups or sauces or pastas or desserts...?
TMX has a brochure about savings you can make with the machine, as a demonstrator perhaps? There might also be something on the Thermomix Forum (http://forumthermomix.com/) a few of us visit. :)
What bread pans does everyone use? I'm keen to do the dough in the TM and bake the bread in the oven, but there's so many different types and sizes of pans!

On the cost question - someone on another forum worked out with the amount of rice milk they used their TMX would pay for itself in a year - just making rice milk, let alone anything else. Mine doesn't in raw $$ terms, but in terms of the stress it saves me, and the enjoyment I get from it, and the increase in healthy foods that we eat, and the yumminess of the not-so-healthy stuff I can make (profiteroles :drool I often feel deprived with the constant GF diet), and the time I can then spend parenting my children (this morning it spent 10 mins browning a kilo of mince to go in the slow cooker for spag bol and I was able to care for a teething baby and ignore it, instead of standing at a frying pan worrying about her getting spat on), it is well worth it.

I am debating what I can put in Christmas hampers as gifts for christmas this year. So far I've got:
Banana Jam
Chilli Jam
Cheese Biscuits
Choc Fudgy Wudgy Cookies
Coffee Liqueur (a la Mama Bel!)
Ginger Nut Biscuits
Lime and Macadamia Fudge
Roasted Beetroot Dip
Washing Powder
Lemon Butter
Pancake Mix
Obviously that would be an eclectic mix altogether so I'm thinking of different ideas for different people.
MIL would be the chilli jam definitely and then I'm not sure after that lol... need to find more "hot" recipes.
SIL would definitely be the coffee liqueur and was thinking the fudgy wudgy's with that
Trying to think of a care package type deal for both sets of parents... anyone got any further ideas? I will probably make butter for my mum as she loves the stuff.

What's been happening....
I made these the other day for an afternoon snack for the kids
http://rachelsrecipes.blogspot.com/2007/09/chocolate-balls-raw-style.html
In the TMX so fast, so easy, and easy clean up too. Much easier than a food processor :)
Did a demo today for mum's from DS1's preschool. They were impressed :) Then again, who isn't when they see it..... It's usually about the $$. Though another obstacle I'm finding is that people think they'll be into it for a little bit, then it will be neglected and that it is an expensive appliance to become that way. I try to assure then that it really isn't hard to incorporate into your everyday life and using it to become a habit....

K: that recipe looks yum. How do you make almond butter? Are you a raw foody? I can understand the cost as I've been raving (squealing!) on another that I'm getting one and some people can see the longterm savings and others just think it's a waste of time. It's just getting the funds together I guess.

lol I wasn't going to put the washing powder in with food items heehee but yes it's made in the tmx... was trying to think of things that would go together. I saw on tv earlier someone making bath bombs and they looked pretty easy but not sure how you'd keep them together.
Basically I was thinking of 2 big hampers for parents/inlaws and then smaller treats for family & friends... like the liqueur and chockies for SIL... my bro would probably like that too. Wonder if someone has tested it with an alcometer yet?
Although having said all that I'll probably just ditch the washing powder idea and make biscuits etc lol
Woohoo Lindy... hope it pans out!

I did a huge vege-steam yesterday, then pureed to freeze, put some in risotto for dinner first. Made couple of lots of dip on Friday.
I made chocolate sauce pudding by hand the other night (because I was microwaving it in the mixing bowl) and far out, I hate cooking by hand now :lol so hard! so messy! so much washing up! and it has been so long since I microwaved it that I couldn't remember how long it needed, and didn't turn out properly. Should have TMXed it, then it would have had time to cook in the oven *bang head*

27-10-2009, 09:51 AM
well, snoozie, what's your plan!! share!!!
Bron, nah, it's an old fashioned bush lemon like we get around in the bush and the old farms around this area. actually, i just assumed that... yeah, must be, we had a lemonade tree at our last place and the lemons still looked like regular lemons. Bush lemons are all crinkly bumply skin and are round.
make fudge the old fashioned way!! what the?!? :) If i don't get a TMX then i will probably have to do just that.
~kaoss~
27-10-2009, 10:50 AM
Bron, have you seen it, been to a demo? Cause if you had and you still said that you didn't get what all the fuss was about, I'd be satisfied, but until then, I'm gonna say you are in denial! ;)
Unless you are a devoted foodie and get orgasmic pleasure in taking time to prepare your food and that the process adds to the flavour. Otherwise, there'd be no reason to think the TMX is impressive.

My sisters came to visit for a few days. I think they're impressed! :) Actually, Kaoss, are you on the north or southside? They're over toward Carindale.
Ours has been kept busy making, making, making and my sisters had a play too!
I had heaps of apples and pears - over-ordered through co-op - so now have lots of apple and pear puree (sauce?) - just fruit and water in it. The kids love it on cereal, yoghurt, rice, as it is...

I'm on the North West side.... my group leader is over that way, so I could put in a referral. Unless they wanted to wait until Dec or early Jan if they were thinking of having a demo, then I'd be happy to go to them :)
Mmmm apples and pears. When I had excess apple I made apple slice, from Cyndi's cookbook (her regular cookbook, not her thermomix one). So easy and sooooo delicious. I was in DH and DS's good books for ages :)

Breakfast: Granola, piece of fruit, cup of tea/coffee/glass organic milk, bread (made) and lemon butter (made)
Morning Tea: Country Vege Muffin (failsafe... I think I can convert this to work it in the tmx and will make it sooooooo much easier to make!).
Lunch: Carrot & Spinach Slice (for us - this is a Sym recipe we love that I think I can convert) and the kids are getting chicken sausage rolls with home made tomato sauce (both off tmx forum).
Afternoon Tea: Fruit, Cheese & Tomato Crackers for us and just Fruit & Cheese crackers for the kids. Going to have a go at making the crackers but we've still got a heap of saos in the cupboard so I'm going to use them up first.
Dinners:
Lasagna
Beef & Guinness Stew
Chicken Risotto (this is a converted failsafe that someone posted on the forum but I'm not telling DH that!!!) lol
Meatballs in tomato sauce
Chicken burgers with salad
Not completely happy with this plan though as I'd like to have fish at least once and swap one of the meat dinners for lentils/vegetarian based.
Oh and desserts:
Fruit Sorbet
Lemon Custard
Apple Tea Cake
Well I better get off here and get dressed before the green loans dude gets here!!!

If so, then that is on par price-wise for what i pay for regular non-organic flour at the shops, which sounds rather neat-o. And i just whizz it in the TMX and it's done???

For milling grain, it is recommended you only do small amounts at a time... I think around 100g and it is done on about speed 9 for a minute from memory to get it fine enough.
Bread needs a fairly strong flour so bread or bakers flour is used to make up the majority of the recipe. Whilst you can use 100% milled wholewheat, you would need to add some form of bread improver I'd guess like ascorbic acid and I imagine the texture would be more crumbly once baked.
HTH! :)

http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=922.0
Is the one I was looking at to start with but I could use wholemeal flour instead of white? I imagine I could.
With milling are the measurements the same? (Does 100gr of grain = 100gr of flour??).
I'm still trying to get the hang of this! lol
I'm also wondering if there is a different recipe as I think I'm going to be going through an awful lot of flour just keeping DH in bread otherwise!
soulmama
28-10-2009, 01:14 PM
I currently make the 5 seed loaf and use 500g of bakers flour or 400g with 100g of milled wholewheat. I buy flour in 5 - 10kg bags (Kialla's plain flour is apparently suitable too).
There are many different recipes, many in the EDC... but even the basic bread recipe that the rolls are made from at the demo use 400g of bakers flour and 100g of milled wholewheat.
I don't use compressed yeast from our local bakery instead of dried - I find it much nicer overall. :)
Yes, 100g = 100g.. just that the volume is more if it's not milled. ;)
to make bread flour, the mix is for each cup of flour, sub one tablespoon of gluten flour for one of the normal flour. i usually put the roughly measured tblsp of gluten flour into the cup measure and top with the other.

I am varying between wanting to throw up and cry right at this point.
I got the tmx today.
I made dinner, steamed veges and custard... I took the blades off like shown to clean the custard off and then thought I'd try making a juice so I thought I would cheat a bit with the custard still in the jug and put some water in it and went to put it back on the machine.
I FORGOT TO PUT THE BASE BACK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The amount of water that went into the base bit and underneath (when I jerked the jug away) shouldn't have done anything to it but after I cleaned out the inside etc and turned it back on at the wall it shorted out the power to the house.
I. AM. FREAKING. OUT.
DH said that if we paid $2000 for a custard maker it would be worth it but I don't think he meant for ONE BOWL OF CUSTARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rang consultant and he couldn't get through to group leader but oh gawd I am so ARGH!
He's going to call me in the morning. I've got it sitting on towels but I seriously don't understand the amount of water involved shouldn't have fried it. I'm too scared to touch the damn thing now.

They are massive on customer service, I believe. I was chatting to 'my' (lol) consultant and she mentioned how they tried to track down the sellers of a couple on ebay a few months ago. They believed seeing them on ebay meant someone was not doing their job in giving the right support, so they wanted to rectify that asap! Not at all the same situation, of course, but shows their dedication. I also know of someone that wrecked their blade by leaving a metal spoon in and turning it on, and it was replaced no charge. I am sure they will work this out for you, it does not sound like it could possibly be damaged beyond repair- these are well made machines!

Sook being jealous because I keep having to tell her to wait for Holler (and seriously I don't know what to do about that) and then they start smacking each other if they think the other's getting more attention from me. Carrot & Orange Juice (EDC) - (I had to add sugar... hopefully can keep reducing as my taste buds adjust!
Buttermilk Scones (EDC) - These were so easy... the 2nd time... after I realised I hadn't taken Tempest off the towel the first time and couldn't work out why I thought there was much too much flour in. 2nd time with correct weights it was soooooooo easy!
Bron's Concentrated Vege Stock (tmx forum) - I had to cut a bit off the parsnip and only used 1 carrot and 1 leek as otherwise the weight went way over lolol Probably didn't have to but I can use the left overs in other things tomorrow soooooo!!! heehee
Bolognaise Sauce (EDC) - Very easy! Smells good - haven't tried yet.
Mashed Potatoes (tmx forum) - In the process of making these now. Potatoes are steaming in the internal basket and once they're cooked I'll drain them and put them in the jug wth butter, milk and a bit of vege stock and water
Tempest is calling!

Anyone who's thinking about a TMX - there's an offer going at the moment...
In a nutshell - if you order a Thermomix in November or December, you can get it straight away, but pay it off over 9 months INTEREST FREE!!! How's that for a great deal! If you need longer than 9 months, that's fine, you'll just have to pay interest on any payments made after the 9 months are over. (NB - there's a $60 fee for taking this interest-free option).
And if you decide to go ahead with this deal, you'll be placed in a draw to win a $250 David Jones Gift Voucher!
Or simple win a FREE Thermomix - go to taste.com from the 9/11 to 1/12 and enter with 25 words or less on why you need a tmx. :)
This info came through courtesy of my consultant and friend Jo (http://quirkycooking.blogspot.com/).
Snoozie, I'm rapt for you that it's working. And boy are you giving it a workout! Wow.

hehe... Hey C and other interested parties:
Have you seen the post on the tmx forum regarding "four weeks to change labelling laws"?
Not sure if this is going to work: http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=2154.0;topicseen

Wow, active thread today...
Snoozie, glad your machine recovered :) Phew! (understatement)
Thanks for posting those special offers Bel.... who needs a resident consultant when Bel's around :) I think the interest free thing is great. I was not keen on the finance before, but this makes it doable I think :)

Ok, link the forum one....
I did the EDC ones tonight - oh parmesany goodness... otherwise I just tend to leave the parmesan out and just have leave it at potatoes, milk, butter and a little salt. Still the smoothess mash I ever did have....
