View Full Version : Well-being goals?

Hey everyone!
Lately I've been doing monthly well-being goals. Basically they're little things I can do to build/maintain my own well-being.
Here are mine for Oct:
1. Increase my attendance to martial arts classes to at least twice a week (currently once a week).
2. Treat myself to a facial.
3. Read fluffy book.
Do you have any well-being goals? Care to share?

Ahhhh....reminds me of the self-nurturance thread I had going on IP v1.0.
I remember saying I was going to get regular massages. Not sure what happened to that plan :unsure
I am a week into my 2nd attempt of the Mass Attack program, though. Lots of yucky herbal tincture, mulitvitamins, supps for my thyroid & 2 others for my PCOS, plus a liver detox powder & I'm throwing in some InLiven for better gut health. Trying to get my endocrine system doing the right thing for a change.
As part of the whole thing, we have started taking the dogs for more walks, but I'm looking forward to the nights getting lighter so I can do some more walking at 'adult pace'.

hmm..
I try to have some quiet time every day- to breathe, think- be calm..
regular reading of something challenging
gym class at least 3 times a week (well, that's all I'm going to be able to do now that I'm working!)
using lovely facial products (loving perfect potion!)
eating more raw food (usually in the form of a green smoothie!)
a regular massage would be lovely

*Start cooking real food for myself again (with help from the TMX)
*Do more deliberate exercise (I walk, bu that does nothing for much of my body that needs strengthening, stretching and blood flow).
*Breath
*Avoid high fat/high sugar in hopes of fitting my jean collection again.
*Try and floss daily (teeth are so expensive to fix, and dental caries are not good for your health, flossing is such a no brainer....it's just a case of getting into the habit.)
*Drink more water
as for mental well being:-
*breath
*live in the moment more; my life is full of special moments that I keep missing because I am future planning or past refecting.

i need to do something to build myself. there is sooooo much i want to do and i think that that is the problem with how i am feeling at the moment. I think i will have to just choose one thing to find time for and let the rest go....
what to choose....
well, it's not all that "well-being-ish" but i think i will choose to work on my grocery list... nah, that's a sucky thing to spend "me" time on.... i got nothing.

((hugs)) Michelle. I'm sorry you're feeling so low.
I'm going to martial arts class tomorrow - first time for me to attend on a Wed (which I hear is the "harder" class). My normal day is Friday. I can't wait! Planning to attend the Sunday class too

I have never really thought too much about this.
I do want to do more sewing/creating just for the fun of it :)
I want to go to bed earlier. Life is so hectic I need more sleep. I am normally a night owl but need to get up earlier to get things done.
I don't know whether this counts but I want to learn other ways to handle stress than buying things online :blushing It's the fun of searching through the sites for things I really want and then enjoying the parcels that arrive :) There must be a better way to de-stress.

I'm doing a 12 week fitness challenge - started on 1 Oct and going up until Christmas - though hopefully the habits will continue after! I need to lose some weight and finally get rid of my flabby belly that's been hanging around since Ewan was born 5 years ago!!
So I'm walking (up hills and getting a sweat up!) 5km every morning, pilate once a week and throwing in some swimming every now and then too. I've started using Calorie King too (the Aust site is free) and it's been great so far - only done almost 2 weeks but liking it a lot.
I've lost 1kg in the first week plus a cm each off my chest, waist and hips and 3 cm off my upper thighs. Looking forward to my next check in on Thurs!
So that's enough for me right now!

Wow Zookeeper, that's a lot! Eilleen - 3 classes this week - go you!
Michelle, I guess the grocery list is something, it's gaining a bit of control, it's thinking about healthful foods... Hugs to you. xx
Well, I'm going back to yoga class now that Brit doesn't work Tuesdays and the girls have no dance Tuesdays - I'm free. Well, I have a cow to milk so need to talk to dh about that. It's hard to be ready for yoga and milk a cow... The class starts at 6pm, which is kinda early in summer (for me). Every 3rd week I can't go as dh does afternoon shift at work.
Maybe I will have to find something else too? Hmmm.

((HUGSS)) start with the grocery list hun, even the smallest steps can be a big improvment, anything that's going to give your mind a bit of space is good, and doing a list will leave you less frazzled at the shops which will in turn keep you calmer, and thus improving your parenting and overall mental wellbeing. I.e you won't be frazzled/flustered trying to remember what you need to get, so your little lads won't feel that and then there will be no motherguilt... IYKWIM
And if you take the time to do your list properly all the ehalthy foods you will be eating will leave you feeling great which will then give youo more energy to burn which will also lead to a better healthier you
So do the list hun

Michelle - do you have a bath at home? Maybe a soak in the tub will help nurture you. Or just something like painting your toe nails. Start small and the other pieces will start to fall in to place in time.
With your grocery list - work on it but maybe add a couple of things that are just for you. Do you like to cook? If so find some new recipes to try and factor them into your week. A couple of glasses of wine too! Or back to the pampering - grab a mask for your face, some nail polish, or some body cream - something to make you feel special.

Hugs Chelle, I agree that starting small is a good idea, and ITA with what Kyls said about the list - less frazzled you equals happier mum & boys time.
Ummm, I'm reading at night - watching less TV and going to bed earlier and reading for a while. I luff it!
Hopefully I'm starting a mindfulness meditation course the weekend after this one - fingers crossed I get in! That's my really big thing for "me" at the moment. It's 2.5 hours each sunday, then a full-day intensive one weekend - all up 8 weeks I think. I think if I get in then it will really help in all other aspects of my life, which I'm really excited about!
And the last one is get outside more - I'm getting into gardening at the moment which I'm really enjoying, and hopefully this yukky whether we're having goes away before the weekend so I can spend it in my garden!
Oh, my last last one - letting the little things go and spending more time just "being" with my girls. Playing tickle-fights, chaseys, hide-and-seek, playing Barbies etc. Because I realised that even if I go to all the trouble of picking the crap up off the floor, it'll be there again in 5 mins, so I may as well ignore it and spend the time connecting with my girls.

i did make a shopping list. AND i made a rough menu plan for the week so that is nice.
BUT i came up with something to do to make me FEEL better... but i need to upload a photo to truely get the point across. Jordy is still up so i will try to do it now while he is watching tv....
At the moment, I'm trying to think of ways to get the kids to be less demanding during Hell Hours (4-6pm) when we're trying to do dinner/bath/bed with three cranky, overtired kids. My mental health will be better if they're not constantly screaming and whining at the end of the day.
I'm also trying to drop a few kilos (which will still be within my healthy weight range). I don't want to hear any crap about not needing to lose weight blah blah blah, it's my own business if I decide I want to maintain a healthy BMI and that is what I'm doing.

LOL chelle! I can so relate! And being un-hairy can make a world of difference to how you feel.
Ok, so been to martial arts yesterday and I'm really sore. I sparred with a big guy and I've decided I much prefer sparring with the 12 yr old boy I spar with on Fridays.... Okay I'm a wuss. I'm going again tomorrow and the current plan is that I also go on Sunday.
I haven't booked my facial yet.
I haven't picked out my fluffy novel yet but there's still plenty of time.
haha Michelle, those legs could be mine!! I think I might get the epilator out tomorrow so they'll be silky smooth for the weekend.
DH and I are off on a child free weekend away this weekend, which will nurture me as well as our relationship.
Other than that I have been making a real effort to exercise each day, not necessarily sweat filled workouts, but at least a gentle walk and stretch.

I love to shave my legs and give my feet some loving care - it makes me feel heaps better. As does a facial and eyebrow tidy up! I call it "repair and maintenance" and no one can disrupt me, LOL.

Hmmmm...time to get rid of the winter coat soon for me as well! Just glad mine are blonde, so not as noticable. Started using the pumice on my feet the other day, so they're looking better, as well as the brow tidy. Just hoping these damn awful herbs sort out my hormones so I can stop plucking & shaving the rest of my face! :gasp
Oh Sam I am so jealous! Have fun!
I need to start walking once a day for only 20 minutes to lift my endorphins.
I need to let my husband take me shopping for some clothes that are not jeans shorts and then I need to wear the clothes. He is giving me a makeover to lift me up. Yes he is a darling! :D

Goals this month for me include....
- Regular excercise on the bike
- Doing some Yoga/Pilates (I subscribed to MyYogaOnline a while ago, but never seem to have time for it...)
- Spend time in the garden daily
- Go to sleep earlier
So far this month I've had a massage (well, 2 actually :D) I'm planning on one per month. I've spent a little more time in the garden, weather permitting. I've also started caring for my feet a bit more (pumice and massage with moisturiser), and loofah daily. Sometimes I need to remember that my head is connected to my body!! :laugh

My goal this month has been to turn my bedroom into my own haven.. and reclaiming it as my space. :wink2
So far it's involved reorganising furniture now that J's isn't in there anymore, replacing the dark mismatched navy curtains for some lovely long cream ones, that really open up the room and a new quilt cover and pillowcases in something totally unpractical but very me!
A few more little touches and it will be just as I need it! :D

I decided today I have just GOT to stop staying up late. Midnight is my absolute curfew, otherwise, once the girls are all asleep, allow 1 hour for work (dishes, washing), 2 hours for play (internet, TV, 'fun work' like organising homeschooling stuff or sewing). Although on nights when there are lots of interruptions eg B is unsettled, I might have to change that - if not desperate for space, just go to bed with her early and get up early to get the work done, if really needing some space, make an exception.
If you see me online after midnight - prod me :D Oh tonight I'm doing a large download so I'm leaving the computer on and if I forget to close the browser it will look like I'm still here, but I'm gone ;)

I'm not doing well the last 2 nights - it's the iPod's fault :lol But the other nights I was in bed before midnight :D
Y'know what? I have learned the hard way that it serves no one to put myself last all the time.
Currently I do the following: yoga class followed by bathhouse every Wed morning; touch footy monday nights (new season starting this Mon); semi regular massages; husband and kids usually give me Aveda treatments for Birth Day, Mother's Day etc; I will often get up on a Sunday morning and go for a bike ride (or go to Yoga class and bathhouse-depends on my mood and whether I want to take one of my kids for a bike ride and brekky somewhere).
I have just started a new 7 week course of women's sacred circle work, exploring my maternal lineage.
I also jump in my hammock with a book occasionally, wander around in the garden with a glass of wine (or sit on the deck), share some decadent food with my family, go to the ocean........lots of stuff.
I have a very busy, rather high stress life so it's really important for me to make time to re-energise and reconnect.

I'm always full of good intentions but seem to lack the motivation to get started and most of all not feel guilty about the things I want to do.
*I would really like to go deeper into buddhism, books are great and so is visiting the temple but that's about as far as it gets.
*I have heaps of sewing I would like to do, by the time I make Zaans quilt he'll be old enough to give it to his children. When I do get around to it I find it really relaxing
*Getting on the treadmill in the morning seems like a good idea 4pm the day before, just never seem to get on
However....
I have started to drink more water & eat. Yes that's right, I would find myself thinking about what I was going to be cooking for dinner and realise I hadn't eaten all day. Naughty I know, but I'm working on that.
and I have been most days taking the time out for a Reiki treatment

So good to read what everyone is doing!
I have yet to make it to martial arts 3 times a week - but I have been managing 2 times so that's pretty good (better than none anyway!)
Still haven't booked my facial. Nor am I anywhere near that fluffy novel.
Oh dear, just noticed that the month is almost at an end! I better get cracking!

I start my mindfulness meditation course tomorrow - rather exciting but also a bit scary - I think I'll find it quite confronting, so we'll see how I go.
E - I've finished the Marian Keyes novel - it's perfect fluffy stuff, so if you'd like to borrow it let me know.
