Woot! Careful, it's addictive. I make WAY more jars than we eat. Luckily they make handy pressies!

Yummy I might have to raid the in-laws tree and grab some mullberries.
I would love to know how to make jam. I think it is a dieing artform. Homemade jam on toast in the mornings in devine.

just had it on toast for breaky. It is delicious.... but quite possibly due to the high sugar content! LOL!
It is VERY sweet. Will use less sugar next time i think.

Marmee, I just used the ones in the EDC and used other fruit or otherwise altered them and they came out fine!
Chelle, it's great to know how to make it by hand and it's actually quite an interesting process and science lesson for the kids! I have been making jam for maybe 10 years and it still impresses me. I hardly ever eat it though!
Mmmm... I have made peach and plum jam in the TM.... mmmm yummo!

Rach - did you just use the recipe in the cookbook? Sounds yummo
Yeah I did... I just didn't have enough plums and needed to use up some peaches... hence the plum and peaches combined. It was really nice.
I could have made peach sorbet too... mmmm, yum! The plum sorbet was a bit sour! LOL

YAY!! You made making jam so easy, that I might give it a go. I hear about jam-sett too but never knew where people bought it, so its good to know that I don't need to buy it.

I make jam all the time, and since it's the only thing DD eats on toast, I can't keep up! We usually make strawberry jam, but also do rosella jam, and I recently tried mulberry jam, but it kind of went too hard. I think Michelle's idea of adding apple to it would probably have helped a lot, so I'm going to try that next time.
You don't need jamsetta to make jam. Jamsetta is just sugar with pectin added, so it's much easier to add the sugar youself, and then add lemon juice for pectin. I think apple is high in pectin as well. There are lists around anyway of which fruits are high in pectin and which aren't.
Oh, and you don't need to let it sit for 24 hours. Or at least, I've never heard of that, and I certainly never do it.
I've also given up turning the bottles upside down. They seal just as well if I don't, and I've heard that the lids (especially used ones), can have chemicals on them, especially if the bottle has previously stored anything fatty (which isn't the case for jam bottles of course. I store all my jam in the fridge, and have never had any problems. I think the high sugar content protects them as well as anything else would!

That is fantastic, what type of jam did you make? I went crazy making jam last christmas-plum jam with vanilla bean and lemon butter. (That was a disaster) It is addictive, I would of made over 40 jars for friends and colleagues! It is actually easier than I thought. Fun to try different fruits with ginger, vanilla, etc.
