i love corn thins and rice thins and all those things but hardly ever buy them... anyone ever MADE them? The ingredients just say 'maize, sesame seeds, sea salt' so nothing bizarre. I wonder how they get the hard kernal out of the popped corn?
Go on TMX people and boggle my mind with the magic of the TMX! LOL!
Or maybe could they be oven baked with a weighted tray on top?

I would guess they were made with corn flour, rather than straight corn. Probably alone the lines of crackers?

Wonder how they get that texture though? I posted on another forum about making "saos" as I want to incorporate them but they are getting a tad $$$ for what they are! Same with weet-bix really :(

No, corn thins seem to be puffed corn, not flour, just by the texture. I'm not sure why there's no crunchy bits. Have you tried Google? If you find anything, let us know!

I'm thinking it's probably steamed & popped in some type of mould - not something the average kitchen would be equipped for.
Ahhh...just checked their website....
Real Foods source the best Australian grown ingredients to manufacture Corn Thins and Rice Thins. These products are manufactured in accordance with HACCP Food Quality system requirements, to ensure the safe consumption of products by our consumers. A measured amount of pre-mixed grain is dropped into a mould. The mould is heated and the grain pops due to the high temperature of the mould. The popping grain can not escape and it fuses together in the circular shape of the mould that it is contained in. This is how the corn cakes are formed in the grain-popping machines. Flavoured Corn Thins are made exactly as above, but also have flavour delicately sprinkled on top to make a seriously tasty snack.

D'ya reckon you'd get one of those corn-thin-making machines next to the waffle makers in Big W? :p

LOL at marmee.
i video'ed Darcy collecting a chook egg yesterday and carrying it through the gate, closing the gate, up the stairs, and into the house just hoping it would break and i could win $10,000 on Aust Funniest Home Videos but the little dude somehow managed to NOT break it despite the waving it around and clunking it against the fence post. :2lol

:rofl
But you could put it on YouTube and send us the link.
You'd be VERY cool then
(without the $10,000, though!)

The heat and pressure involved are pretty extreme, apparently, and also destroys any nutrition the grain contained in the first place.

Bugger, 'cos if I remember correctly, they're tasty...
Chelle, how cute with the egg-carrying. Our girls have been a bit slack the last 4 days, must be the hot days? They've been very spoiled with garden salads and the like...

no less nutritious than bread though, and a heck of a lot tastier...
My chookies have been gorging on a styrofoam box i accidently left in the yard! eek! i have no idea what that will do to their bellies.

Oh yeah, chooks are obsessed with styrofoam. I have no idea why, but mine go crazy over it too. We've had to remove it all from chook accessible places. Never seemed to hurt them, but I'd prefer to avoid it!

Yeh, apparently it passes straight through but we're extra careful now too. They seem to love the texture.
Oops, heading off-topic. :p

i AM going to try it! I don't own a sandwich press but give me time and i am going to borrow one and see how it goes. My first step though is to grow my own corn.... seeds are in pots now :)
