I think it is time to re do my little gardenn...as it gets colder I want to make sure that I have some little plants in before the first frost.

So a couple of questions to ask you garden experts...

I planted tomotoes on January the 5th...they have not flowered or produced ANY fruit...is it time to pull then out?

My spring onions are failing to thrive...it could be because they are planted in a shallow part of the garden...should I move them to a deeper part? leave them in a little longer and she was they do? Pull them out and make more room?

What have you planted for the winter...those in the southern hemisphere?

Thanks for you help :)

tomatoes are good planted in early spring in temperate climates - I'd pull them out and plant something else.

I'm about to plant potatoes, sweet potatoes and beans, carrots and beets. I live in Perth.

No idea bout the onions, sorry

How big are the spring onions currently? If they're tiny, I'd transplant. If they're mid-sized, maybe give them a feed and leave them a bit longer while the days are still warm. Then harvest. Mine didn't do so well either, but we have clay soil and it has been a very wet summer.

No idea about growing tomatoes down there. We can grow them through winter in a sunny spot location.

Same as LucyLu, I've already planted sweet potato and beans and carrots and I have a bag of sprouting potatoes to plant this weekend. Other great winter crops are leafy greens (silverbeet, rhubarb, spinach, asian greens) and the entire brassica family (broc, cauli, cabbage, kale).

Thanks guys. We planted and harvested beans and pease over the spring/summer/autumn and they did go so will but our chard is going great guns! so I think I may fill my garden with asian greens and some other things we use in cooking, mainly herb...things to put in casserole I suppose, tarragon for baked fish...then I might use a half wine cask we have to plant some potatoes!

Thanks for the inspiration!

The tomatoes are going to go and I will transplant the spring onion!!!
