View Full Version : Toilet trouble
Hi All,
I have a 2 yr 4mth old and he just this last week has started telling me when he wee's and poo's. However he hates having his clothes taken off and hates the toilet, (doesn't even like it when i go all though he is getting a bit netter with that). Nor is he keen on the potty. So my question is how to i make going to the loo fun? I have thought of getting one of those ladder seats, but that doesn't tackle the issue of removing ones clothes

To be honest, I'd probably leave it until he's ready. Just keep talking about it with him (in a non-threatening way). I found that pushing these things before they are ready just makes it take way longer, and turns it into a power struggle.

My little is exactly the same. He communicates the need to toilet, will try and hold on while in undies, but HATES taking his clothes off and the toilet/potty.
I have no answers Mon. I am hoping he will just get it one day. He has done a wee in toilet with his Dad once, but never again has he been comfortable.

Arch is similar in that he hates the toilet, but he's ok with having his clothes off. But he hates hates hates the toilet or potty with a passion! We suggest books, songs etc if there hasn't been a wee for a while but he always just replies with an adorable "no thanks!" And I just have no response to that. I'm asking, he's answering. I can't force him, and as Rinelle said, pushing it is just going to make it worse and take longer. I'm hoping that once summer comes and he's in undies and outside more then he'll be more inclined to go. He's 2 and 6 months.

The warmer weather might help? Less clothes, less hassle to get them off and on? And more time outside with less clothes on to wee on the trees etc? Hang in there, Mon.

yep- echo what the others have said.. hopefully in summer he likes to be naked..
my eldest son had a big issue with the toilet- actually he didn't poo in the toilet until he was 4.. he was scared.. but he got there in time.. he would just ask for a nappy.

Yep I agree completely with everyone else, don't push him, he may actually just surprise you one day. I too would wait for the warmer weather.

Arch did this the other day!! Just came up to me and said something about sitting on the loo, and then he did a wee! He hasn't wanted to since mind you ...

I'd be waiting til he's ready too. My little one is just a tad older than yours Aine and has been reliably able to tell me when wees amd poos happen for a while. I suggest that the toilet could be used next time if they know when they need to go and little ne has asked to sit on the loo a few times but not regularly. We got one of the toilet insert seat things qnd that's made it easier for me - trying to hold q toddler on a loo when your pregnant is not very easy! I figure that when they're ready the toilet will be used! My eldest decided the day before his 4th birthday the thered be no more nappies during the day amd that was that. He was ready. So I trust that when they're ready, they'll do it yk?
