Bloody Veg has thrown me in the ddep end again. Tomorrow we will be celebrating MIL's 60th, which is great however lasr night he says to me 'oh yeah and BTW I told SIL you'd be making little finger food canape things, so you better look into that' :thud So now I have only today to think of, shop for and make a few different types of finger food to feed about 20 odd people..... What do you serve? Can I have some recipes please?

Our standard is baby quiches - bought pastry if you can't be bothered, the egg/milk mixture and any choice of filling cut up small (chicken, ham, onion, zuch, mushroom, spinach etc) cheese and done in muffin trays.
Mini meatballs and dipping sauce
rice paper rolls and dipping sauce
sushi rolls cut into small rounds
dip and crudites (fancy word for cut up veg :2lol) cucumber, carrot, green beans, celery, capsicum etc etc
cheese platter
That's all I've got at the moment but if I think of anything else I'll come back to add!

Thanks BW...Veg is lucky he didn't become a crudite himself :rofl
I'm thinking an anti pasto platter thing
Crackers with smoked salmon, half a cherry tomato and a teeny sprig of dill
Some kind of french onion type dip thing and the crudites
Prawns...was thinking oysters kilpatrick but Veg doesn't think so ( I don't care as I can't stand oysters)

If I did that I'd be serving baked beans on chocolate squares with icecream :2lol
Nice one Veg! If anyone can do it with style in short time, you can kyls :) Your menu already sounds yum :)
Our favourite is caramelised red onion & goats cheese tarts, but the caramelised onion takes a while and you can't TMX it... they are super yummy but and I think you could cheat by buying a jar of onion jam/caramelised onion. Then just cut out circles of shortcrust pastry and bake (you can prebake these), then plop a bit of onion in the middle, a nice chunk of goats/sheep feta on top (I normally reheat in the oven until the feta goes soft, but I think you could do without) and top with a pinch gremalata (finely grated lemon rind & chopped parsley) before serving
You can also do a similar thing with olive tapenade & feta. Just don't use too much tapenade as it's strong.

Devilled eggs are a bit old fashioned but they are dead easy and not that fiddly. And I agree - a flan or quiche or something you can cut up into small pieces would save a lot of work but get everyone fed. Chip and dip, or a cob loaf with filling or something like that?

Thanks for the ideas girls :great
We're having a lamb on the spit, which takes about six hours to cook, and leaves everyone drooling all day, so I want foods that aren't too filling, but will keep people from ripping parts of the lamb off :rofl
So I've spoken to Veg, I can't get in contact with MIL, or SIL so don't know what they're making, but Veg reckons that instead of doing canape things we should do salads or something instead, I told him where to shove his stupid planning ideas and came up with this list instead :rofl
Prawns
Vegetable kebabs
2 types of potato salad
the lamb
Bacon and chive mini tarts
bags of charcoal (for the lamb :2lol)
MIL's present (which I organised alone ;) )
And I'm pretty sure that's enough, I know that every other person that is there will bring a couple of plates of things as well so I'm not too fussed :great

I'm sure I'm too late and this has already happened but I love the idea of a finger food thread.
I love devilled eggs.. easy and pretty and people like em. I add mustard and mayonnaise and top with paprika.
otherwise I'm so lazy and just get these

I know it's post-party, but for next time:
Another super easy for me is prunes stuffed with cream cheese and ginger. Or I do a hot cream cheese dip (hmmm, theme here: cream cheese lol!) which is cream cheese, regular grated cheese, finely chopped onion and capsicum, a dash of tomato sauce, a dash of hot sauce if required and zapped in the microwave for 1-2 mins (I do it when we are on-site of the party) stir the whole lot together to a thick dip and voila, all done. Best with crudites imo but crackers will do if needed. Oh and another is stuffed cherry tomatoes. I scoop out the seeds and beat a mixture of yes, cream cheese, with fresh basil (can add garlic if you like) which I pipe into the tomatoes like I'm icing. I try not to serve all cream cheese lol, just pick a different thing each time.

oh I JUST thought of an really easy one..
bagette sliced not too thick, toast in toaster oven so they are done on one side, rub the cut side of 1/2 a garlic clove on the toasted side. spread goat cheese and top with a criss cross two slices of a sundried tomato.
so easy and really yummy.
