My little man has croup.. he woke on Sat morning barking, but otherwise ok.. Mark had him all day on Sat.. and apparently he had a few attacks during the day where he was really struggling for breath.. I was running a blessingway for a friend last night- so Mum was watching the kids- she rung me about 8 telling me I had to come.. Matt was having issues.. I could hear him in the background- so I quickly did the intro to the blessingway- did the red cord web, and left (bit sad.. but hey!)
he was sleeping when I got home- but I could hear him labouring for breath in the next room. We called the health line and they encouraged us to go up to the hospy.. so after I settled the older boy, called Mark.. up we went. Mark came with as well.. so that was nice.
Thankfully there wasn't much of a wait.. we saw triage and they took us straight through to the ward and connected Matt up to this machine.. it was too busy for us to have a bed, but we had a couple of seats in the hall where he was treated.
they ended up giving him some steroids- which apparently have helped- though his breathing is still laboured as far as I'm concerned. I have more to give him tonight..
poor darling.. he has a bit of a fever.. but I think it's best to let him have it.. fight whatever is causing this yukky thing.
we're all tired today- didn't get home till after 2am..
any hints? anyone know the homeopathic remedies for croup.. can't find my book,.,
gotta go.. bubba needs me

We've never had it here, is it still kosher to use a vaporiser to loosen the phlegm? Just wanted to wish to well Kylie and send healing :vibes your family's way.

Croup can be so scary can't it Kylie! One of my boys has/had recurrent croup (averaging an episode every month or two- but looks like he *may* be growing out of it now yay!), and I found that prednisolone was the only thing to fix it for us. I would also love to hear of any natural remedies that people might know of as I don't like giving steroids (we have monitored his growth though, and he has completely kept up with his twin thankfully).
If you do end up needing to use steroids, I personally found that giving them as early as possible meant that he was less sick, for a shorter time period, and also that I did not have to give as much (fewer doses).

yes.. they do recommend getting a vapourizer
he had steroids last night.. so while he's still a bit croupy.. it's not like it was.. I have more doses to give him.. and will be doing so tonight.
He's been really clingy this morning.. but playing well now with the other kids- so that's nice.
I didn't actually see any of the attacks- and I was suprised last night when they put us straight into the emergency ward... though reading about it, and talking to the doc- I realise that it could really awful really quickly! Mum said it was really scary..
hoping that he's on the mend now..
off to hunt for my homeopathic book- though I could do a google search I guess..l

I find the same as Lindy with my girls having the pred for bronchiolitis. Big hugs to you. I'll have to go through my bookmarks in Google Chrome to find the homeopathic sites I'm thinking of, bbl :)

Spongia, kali carb and aconite I think. Spongia is the main one. Croup is horrible. Hope he gets over it very quickly.

he's doing ok.. caved with the panadol- thought he might sleep for longer than 10 mins.. but he's up and playing with the twins- so that's good.
Mark came over and watched a dvd with the kids so I could get some rest.. however he proceeded that with a very uncomfy phone call about how things were going between us (we've been talking about trying to work things out.. and how that might look etc etc.. and he's been sending me mixed signals.. another story) so I was upset.. couldn't sleep- dvd was too loud.. though I made myself lie down for an hour and just tried to relax.. which has helped a little.
Mum and Dad are taking the twins out for a little while, bless them.. hopefully Matt and I will be able to have some more sleep.. in prep for tonight!
I have kali carb and aconite I think.. have to check..

It was kind of nice to have him there..
finally Matt is asleep- the twins are out with Mum and Dad.. I think I"ll get dinner ready and pj's out so it's all organized when they come home.. so I can crash when they do tonight!
I did ask Mark to come and help with dinner/bed etc.. but he didn't want to- he's freaking out about other stuff.. hard to handle!

Have some "me" time, Hon. Get into your PJ's too and have something simple for dinner. Hope bath/bedtime goes ok for you tonight

we both had some sleep.. tried giving the kids tinned soup for dinner with toast- they ate the toast but wouldn't touch the soup- never mind.. they tell me they're full!
borrowed a humidifier.. so hopefully that keeps matt asleep tonight.. he didn't really sleep much today- and when he was he was attached to the boob- and wouldn't get off- how annoying!!!! hope he doesnt need that tonight cause I am tired!
Hopefully he'll have a good sleep tonight after being awake all today. Sleep vibes to you all.

well, we had a full nights sleep- Matt did anyway- I think I was up to the twins getting water then in their beds to keep them out of mine..
I gave him the steriods (which he spat most of out..) and had the humidifier on.. so he's past the worst. no fever this morning, but still the occasional bark.
I think another quiet day is in order though.. except we so need some food!

Hope that things continue to improve today Kylie. Give that room some air today too as the vapourisers tend to cause lovely mouldy walls and ceilings!
Good to hear Matt got a good nights sleep.
