i used to think that the purple cauliflower in the supermarkets was GMed so kids would eat it!! But you get purple cauliflower too!

How purple are the tomatoes? Black purple (like a Black Russion) or PURPLE purple??

Here is the link (http://www.tesselaar.net.au/plant-nursery/tomatoes/default.asp#35)
It says it dates back to the 1800's so probably not gm.

DH got some different tomato plants from friends of ours on the weekend which are heirloom varieties, apparently they will be green with lighter green stripes, and vivid orange :) I am also a fan of purple!

Yep, purple, white and yellow carrots.

I am trying banana rockmelon, lemon cucumber and cream of saskatchewan watermelon in the garden this year for something new and different.

I love flicking through seed catalogues to get ideas of what's available. That's how we've found out about different vegetables and fruits from the usual supermarket ones.

I got a tonne of different varieties of tomato seeds off ebay a few months ago, tiger, white, green, yellow, black, purple and can't wait to see what they all taste like. They're all beginning to sprout up now but no fruit yet.

I've grown purple carrots, cauli, broc, cabbage, tomatoes, beans and peas. I love trying different varieties. Purple King Beans are fun - they grow purple - easy to pick - but go green when you steam them. :)

I had put yellow zucchini, purple cabbage, red capsicum and green stuff in our stir fry last week and was admiring how pretty it looked. DH rolls his eyes! ;)

I'd do the same Bel. I reckon a stir fry needs as many colours as possible. ;)

I do it with every meal. DH totally doesn't get it, but there's got to be lots of colours on the plate. So, say a 'stew' and rice will probably have to have steamed carrots and broccoli on the side to balance out the colour thing. :p Even baked beans on toast I have to add some fresh tomato and baby spinach leaves on the side rofl.

Your food sounds so nice. It's boring colours around here. Big girl tends to only like certain colours. If I could get pink everything she may eat it then :laugh

I joked to my mum that once I have a vege garden I could have all purple veges. She was very shocked :laugh But said it would be like me to have a purple vege garden :laugh

I love all the different heirloom varieties. I spend far too much money on seeds. *blush*

And I am very indecisive about tomatoes, so I end up buying and planting at least 10 different kinds. Because they are all TOO TOO cute to not buy.

I found some wonderful heirloom tomato seedlings at a nursery nearby and reasonably priced too!! Yay.

We loads of gardening over the last two days.
I have some new mint plants and basil, because its been tragic to not be able to have fresh basil at home since the other one burnt itself out.

We have tomatos and carrots, capsicums and zucchinis. Spinach and beans and...what else?
oh strawberries.

And my apple tree is flowering! YAY. I hope we get fruit this time!

Oh such yummy gardens.

I was wondering what the different tomatoes taste like?

They all taste like tomato! ;) Some are more acidic than others. I love the fleshy ones like grosse lisse (?) with very few seeds. They have a mild flavour. Yellow tomatoes are sweeter, to me. Others don't like them as much. My kids don't like the look of dark purple/black tomatoes (we did Black Russians last summer)...

Same as purple beans and peas - they taste the same as any others, sometimes the texture is different between varieties of course - some beans I love raw, others are better in stir fries and steamed. :)
