View Full Version : The Thermomix Decision

I am having a dilemma! I saw a disappointing demo today with a man who didn't know his stuff and wasn't much of a salesman either. The food wasn't flash, but nothing that a good cook can't improve on (who the hell makes risotto without parmesan, or white wine for that matter?). But these aren't my issues. I already knew that I wanted one, but had decided to just not 'go there'. But then I bloody did, didn't I?!!
I know a lot of folk with a TMX, most of you in Brisbane (plus Bel ;)) and I am sure that you are very similar to me in the kitchen. You eat 95% fresh produce, you enjoy cooking, and you make the time to cook nutritious food. So what IS the benefit of the TMX to you?
Then there's the price. I can only assume this is pyramid selling, and that, therefore, I would probably be paying 100% more than I should be. There may be patents all over it, but the same goes for Dyson's stuff and yet there's tonnes of imitation Dyson vacuum cleaners out there doing a very similar job. Am I going to see something similar in Harvey Norman next year for half of the price? I am starting to think it's unethical to limit the accessibility of superior products, simply to maintain a high retail price, and line the pockets of many people in the pyramid.
What are your thoughts?

I have a friend who is a TMX demo woman, she does an amazing demo! I love it, just need to convince DH that we *need* one. I am Gluten free, so I can see the benefits for me. They also have interest free on at the moment I think.

Yes to cooking similar to you and yes to using and loving the TMX.
The Thermomix has been around for 25 years (Germany) but only in Australia for a few. AFAIK in 25 years no one has produced anything very similar. Using it, I'm convinced of the quality. It is like no other appliance I own or have owned. It's like a luxury car compared to, well, what I normally drive, LOL.
I'm not sure of the exact layout of the company, but I think there's just the woman who imports them in Perth, then area manager type people, then the consultants. And I think the commission is maybe around $300-$400 per sale to the consultants. Maybe it's more "pyramid" than that, I don't know as I'm not a consultant and haven't even looked into it.
Good luck with your decision!
I'm sorry you had a crap lunch, normally the demo menu produces an excellent feed. :)

I wouldn't say it was crap Bel, but he clearly isn't a foody, and was just doing a job rather than pushing his passion. Two of us remarked that there was no sugar in the bread that he was trying to raise in ten mins, and he was oblivious to sugar being used as yeast food. The bread was tough as, and tasteless (but then, she and I both own breadmakers and adore them). The recipes weren't great, but if you're 'into' food then it can't be hard to improve them.
I have been saying I won't buy one because $2000 is nearly 7 adjustable stumps for our house LOL! But now I am thinking it should be half of that price. How can I justify so much more, simply to pay the go-betweens?
Disclaimer: I stopped buying Tupperware and Enjo a couple of years ago :P

But when you buy anything else similar, you pay go-betweens. Retails sales assistants at, say, Betta Electrical, get bonuses. And they have a mark-up on wholesale rate. And the wholesalers pay the importers and the importers pay the exporters and they pay the manufacturers... And each time a little is added to the original price. Well, that's my understanding of buying retail.
I don't mind direct marketing. It's just people doing a job. And the product is often superior.

I haven't put sugar in any of the breads I've made D.... there is none in the recipes except the brioche...
No problems, always rises well and tastes beautiful though.. :)
And I think if you had a better demo (Kara, where are you???), you'd understand a bit more. :kiss

i think as far as the pyramid selling thing goes... unless you buy any product direct from the hands of the person who made it then it is near impossible to avoid dodgy markups. And although i do not know under what conditions a TMX is made i would have to assume that buying any electrical appliance from an electical store a lot of your money goes to dodgy chinese or korean workplaces and companies of questionable structure so i don't mind paying a commision to a local rep that has made an effort to demonstrate and assist me with the product one on one.
But yeah, it's a lot of money! I am hoping it lives up to its reputation and my high expectations.

I don't have one (though would love one) and the food I have tasted was lovely.. the bread was delicious! So I don't know what went wrong.. maybe you need to go to one of Kara's demos!

I think you would be shocked if you knew some of the wholesale prices of the things you pay for. If you buy bread, do you really think it cost $3.00 to make? How about glasses? You're talking about a write up of a 500% plus.
I definately understand the concern of a cheaper copy coming out and the price going down, especially with the popularity of them increasing out of sight.
I guess it's one of those times you have to decide "what is it's value to me?". I personally could have a $50K car in the driveway that wouldn't have more value to me than the little cheap Barina I actually have.
What it's going to do for you?; will it makes your life a lot easier?, and put hours back into your day? Do you really need those things? or do you really need the $2000?
What Bel said... can't elaborate at moment as I have sleeping/feeding babe on one arm!
Yes to about $400 commission but as Bel said, that's on par with what happens in retail and I prefer to line a friend's pocket (or other decent distributor) than a retailer...
If you like bread one of the benefits is that you can make your own fresh flour. No time for mould to develop (as in any bought flour) = lessened allergy issues.

DePome... you'd have been demo'ed by the same consultant I had yet we had 2 completely different experiences.
I'm not sure on the mark-up but I don't believe you can buy the tmx any other way than direct selling and I have never seen a comparable product on the market... not saying there isn't one, just that I have never seen it.
My understanding is that the consultants receive commission on the ones they sell... the more they sell in a month, the more commission they earn per machine. They have to attend regular meetings and initially, purchase a business kit... I believe there would be ongoing expenses of stationery and buying the food the host isn't asked to supply.
I thought the mushroom risotto was a bit bland at my demo but figured I could make the necessary improvements myself.
I have used the tmx every single day since I got it and it's definitely instrumental in helping me turn our family's eating habits around. Sounds like you were already on the right path so it comes down to whether or not you think this is a product worth your money.
I believe it was worth mine! :)

we too had a very dodgy demonstrator - to the point that friends who were all set to get one and only came for numbers were starting to question it
however more than a demonstrator could ever do i've seen TMX in action at friends places all the time, whipping up desert, some stock, a quick dip and lots more over the course of many days and we're sold on the food prep side of it - ie the fresh flour, fresh dips, tomato sauces - yes we could do them another way, but we just don't have time atm
re the selling method - it really is a machine you need to see in action to get an understanding of and to that extent i'd rather someone trained come to my home and show me thoroughly and be available for all my questions than some general area staffer for a big store that is doing a hard sell on a particular stereo when they are only trained in fridges etc
everything you buy that doesn't come direct from the point of creation will cost more.
and to this end - we didn't buy from our dodgy presenter - we found out about a good one that other local friends had bought from and directed our purchase through her

Don't really know what to add. Sorry you had a crap demo, maybe he was having a crap day.
We have to work pretty hard to get the commissions around $400! It starts off a whole lot lower than that and builds depending on how many machines we sell in a calendar month. Not every demo we do produces a sale either.... it isn't supposed to be a hard sell, but a demonstration of the product. But risotto without wine? What's that about??
I really do feel like it a quality product. As for mark ups, I can't add much than what other people have said, but from what I have heard the margins and commissions for thermomix are a lot less than other party plan style businesses (not that I know what they are, but that's what I heard at a meeting).
I'd be happy to do a demo for you if you'd like (though I might crack under the pressure! ;) ).
You eat 95% fresh produce, you enjoy cooking, and you make the time to cook nutritious food. So what IS the benefit of the TMX to you?
The benefit to me is that it takes much less time, and much less mess to make all the things I like to make from scratch. It also gives me to opportunity to create my own ingredients, such as flours, icing sugars, yogurts etc that are either time consuming to do or difficult to do without special machinery. Also, there is so much value in the fact that is really versatile, so I don't need a breadmaker and food processor and blender and grain mill etc. It is all in one.
Anyway, I'm a consultant, so it is all going to seem like I am selling it.... But really, if the product doesn't impress you, then that's cool. No one can really talk you into it. You are either willing to pay that price or your not....

He rang me earlier, just to clarify that it isn't really pyramid selling, and that he'd looked in to that himself before signing up. I told him I'm very interested but struggling to justify the expense given the things that we want to do round the house, that we're struggling to prioritise. I already own all the other appliances so it's not like I'm saving any money, only outlaying a heap. I have kind of come round again TBH but DH needs to be convinced. My friend, who hosted, has ordered one today even though he put her right off yesterday! She spent last night on the TMX forums and was sold on all the chutneys and sauces that she could make without stirring ! I must say, I can see me bothering to make and preserve more sauces, spreads etc, but really I need to find a supplier of whole boxes of tomatoes before I'll ever go there again. Actually, with the quantities that I make, and the number of jars that I have to fill, I don't think I'd be making them entirely in the TMX anyway... I'd need my stew pot. Oh bugger. I'm having such a dilemma! I think I need to do what my friend did... pour over the recipes to see how they would fit into my life.

No one would let it go, Michelle!
I used to take ingredients to my friend's place to see how it'd go with things I like to make. :) We'd create feasts for us and the kids for lunch.
My friends sometimes bring stuff here to try the TMX out - well, the 2 who don't yet own one, but want one! ;)
Anyway, I'm a consultant, so it is all going to seem like I am selling it.... But really, if the product doesn't impress you, then that's cool.Um yeah... those are all the reasons you BECAME a consultant!
The other real biggie for me is the extras I can make that have absolutely no hidden additives eg did you know that icing sugar contains aluminium but it doesn't say so on the packet 'cos they just don't have to? I have never seen an organic icing sugar either but I make my own with either organic raw sugar or for really fancy stuff, the rapadura...
And for the record... there is NO WAY, NO HOW that I would rent my TM out! LOL What a preposterous idea!!!
mama_bel
10-11-2009, 01:50 AM
I have seen organic icing sugar through Sprout Online I think. I just use organic raw sugar now, so good to have cut down on the amount of 'ingredients' I buy 'cos they're made from scratch.
YEAH YOU CAN DEF PURCHASE ORG ICING SUGAR, oops sorry not shouting.......but why would you??? It's a freakin rip off!
DePome, I get Rach to bring hers around for me to play with-I find it a lot cheaper milling my own org brown rice flour, and like to have a bash with it.
Also, being wheat free due to intolerance, as well as organic due to ideals, I'd really like to make my own org GF pastas-cos FAR OUT they are expen$ive!!!!
I want one (and Rach will tell you how skeptical I was b4 seeing the demo)......

Don't ask that!
I'd like to hire one too. Anyone want to start up their own business?
I would LOVE one, having see Karas demos and read and seen the photos of C's creations I really really want one. So as soon as I can afford one its top of my list (after paying my bills, getting new tyres and brakepads, buying bookpacks for next year etc etc
Captain is a TM snob, if we purchased the deal is that I take on more cooking responsibilities.
However, it is true that most of Bris' top restaurants use them.
I like the idea of it saving me more $$$$, cos I'd like to churn my own cultured butter and make my own yoghurt from raw milk, etc
We have exactly the same problem Moo. If we get one then I have to cook more. Not happening my friend :2lol

And I still have a batch of muffins to bake tonight for Mira's birthday do tomorrow, and gee, wouldn't it be nice to have auto-porridge in the morning.
I'm weakening - and then I look at my pots and pans cupboard and think, greedy woman, as if you don't already have enough stuff for cooking with!

ohh.. interest free finance.. well, that's certainly got me interested.. how does it work?? what's the deposit etc etc
~kaoss~
17-11-2009, 10:24 PM
Jodie, you sound like you would definitely know how to make good use of it! As for all the pots and pans in the cupboard, they would be used less. Possibly even downsize the amount if you have a lot.
Kylie, the interest free finance there is no deposit. There is an application fee of $60 and ongoing account keeping fee of $3.95 per month. You'd want to pay if off in the interest free period though because the interest rate is up there with credit cards. But despite the application fee and going account keeping fee, you could easily save that money and more by making (quickly and easily) things you'd normally buy. If there wasn't an interest free finance period, finance is not something I'd normally suggest as an option.

No Lisa, I didn't buy any accessories. I actually don't know what's available, but I'm not interested at the moment. I suppose I will have to have a look for the recipe books at some point ;)
Thanks Harmony :great I have been wondering where I can get bulk around here. Discovered boxes of tomatoes at a local greengrocer though, but not a lot else in bulk :( I guess I will see how that changes with the seasons. Thanks for the offer :D

You can always ask the fruit & veg shops about bulk - they are usually accommodating. At the end of the markets is a good time to offer $$ for a whole box of something. :)
Deb, I have all the cookbooks but one (and maybe a couple of booklets) and TBH I only use the EDC that comes with it and my printed recipes off the forum and blogs. Very occasionally I'll get a recipe from another book, but not enough to warrant the expense. Good gift ideas though, if someone wants to know what to buy you. :) Mine were all gifted to me except for 2 booklets - the Budget Busters (well-used) and the raw one (should be better used!).

I don't really get the can't make cookies without a mixer thing? We make gingerbread all the time with our Christmas cutters and no mixer.
spiralgirl
19-11-2009, 12:47 PM
id like that recipe then Liz :)
I did finally find a recipe for basic cookies using a blender to mix the mixture, but we shall see how it turns out - you see I know nothing about cooking, and all my adventures require googling a recipe- and it took me lots of google attempts to find a recuipe that didnt require me to use a mixer.....
i really AM going to get a TMX anyway, sometime next year when funds allow....i was just after someone to enable me further with the cookie thing as i was pissed off and frustrated at not finding a recipe ( and i was sitting here grumbling to myself " i bet if i had a tmx i could make cookies easily...it does everything....bet it would even restump the house" etc etc etc)
spiralgirl
19-11-2009, 01:44 PM
just made basic spelt butter cookies (vegan and oooohhh so unhealthy) with the blender adn cut them out with the cookie cutters- they came out quite yummy and the middle of some is still a bit soft and gooey just like i love them....hard not to eat them all, but i KNOW whats in them and its ALOT of fat and sugar!!!

Tahne, if your butter has been on the benchtop for an hour or so, there's no reason why you can't make cookie dough with a wooden spoon and bowl. Of course that doesn't negate your need for a TMX! But don't be put off by recipes that use a mixer when you can do without easily. I have two :blink and you're welcome to have the one that only has one silver mixer attachment :2lol

i use Nuttlex not butter ( as Im dairy free) so its super soft to begin with....but yes I still totally NEED a TMX ( Im sure my great great grandmothers would turn in their graves to hear such poppycock!!)
and thanks for the offer- I feel very loved :)

i am actually really glad i got mine (had it for 25hours now!) i agonised over the decision for soooo long but i already know i will make my money back becuase it really is as simple to use as everyone makes out (but it really doesn't clean itself IMO)

Do you think that it is a lot easier to clean than most appliances? I definitely do. And because it is going to be used again in the near future for something else, it is more likely to be clean, rather than left til later (all talking from personal experience)

19-11-2009, 07:47 PM
certainly HEAPS easier to clean than other appliances. Except for maybe my hand whizz blender that i used to just whizz under water. But the TMX beats everything else. I put water in and turned up to 8 + turbo a few times today when cleaning but in the end i take it off and wash it properly but it seems to wipe clean really easily.
Although, i made thick thick chocolate custard last night (should have used more milk) and it took a little soaking to get out cos i left it for a couple of hours while putting kids to bed.
But i made smoothies today and a gazillion times better than cleaning a juicer. Ergh!

I'm having my demo tomorrow night :yipi The more I look at this thread the more I want to buy one. :rofl
Does anyone know if I can use party ice instead of ice cubes?
Also, what is the cream cheese for? We are dairy and gluten free and I've advised her, but she still gave me the standard list of ingredients. :(
She's doing sorbet, hommus, GF bread rolls, salad, risotto & lemon custard.
I'm substituting rice milk for the cows milk and the parmesan will be separate, but the cream cheese has me stumped. I hope it's for the herb dip. :2lol
Also, I know you get a free gift if you purchase at a demo. Do you get anything if you purchase later or with a different consultant? Can't see hubby being ok with making a decision in a hurry. :blink

How hot does it get? I'm trying to figure out what I could cook in it...
mama_bel
20-11-2009, 04:25 PM
Generally, 100 degrees, but it also has the Varoma or steam function and I think that's 114 degrees. It's hot enough to stir-fry, cook a curry or risotto in 16 mins, boil jam or tomato sauce, steam chicken or fish, veg, rice, sauce (all at once, LOL). It doesn't bake. It doesn't deep fry. It doesn't freeze.
It makes great ricotta, if you happen to have a cow and therefore excess milk. :p

~kaoss~
20-11-2009, 05:26 PM
Snoozie, you should have been offered a delivery demo by your consultant - you host a demo after you've received your so that you can get the free thermoserver. You can have additional demo's after that if you want, and get a thermoserver or a breadmat at a reduced price.
Cef77 - I should come and do a GF demo for you. Make sure DH is home. It'll be sure to tip him over the edge. I'll bring GF bread and you could look at the GF book then too. I have it in front of me and there are some biscuit recipes, slice recipes, a few bread recipes (GF bread, almond bread, sweet potato bread) and cakes. But really, unless you have a flip through the book yourself, I don't know what will really suit you. But yes, I do think it could pay for itself because you would be able to buy less specialty goods and make more yourself at home, but quickly and easily.

I split my rice basket by banging it (I'm rough on things), but only the very top cracked and it's still useable. In fact, you can barely notice.
I've heard of people forgetting to put the base in and pouring liquid in, like someone here, and they (TMXes) tend not to like that. Other than that, all the ones I know of are used several times a day, and often by children and teens with no ill effects. They really are quite tough and after months of constant use mine is shiny and clean as ever, so little wear and tear visible except the spatula thingy, which is nicked from the blades.

COFFEE LIQUEUR
Ingredients:
390g raw sugar
370g hot water
30g instant freeze-dried coffee
500g vodka
1 large vanilla bean
Method:
Grind sugar on speed 9 for 30 seconds. Add hot water and coffee. Mix on 100 degrees, speed 4 for 1 min 30 sec. Slice vanilla bean in half, lengthwise and then each half into quarters. Add vanilla pieces and vodka to TMX bowl. Heat at 60 degrees, speed 3 for 8 minutes.
Pour into a glass bottle and sit for 4 days. Strain and pour into same bottle (will need approx 2L size). Store in a cool, dark place. Enjoy!
If you don't have a Thermomix, this could be made on the stovetop or microwave by basically following the steps above and stirring over low-medium heat.
I have no idea of the resulting alcohol content of this liqueur.
PS - you can use whatever vodka, the flavour of it is masked by the coffee etc. I don't drink coffee, but I do like this. A lot. :p

DULCE DE LECHE
This yummy caramel recipe is one great way I've found to use up some milk. The lovely Bron on the Thermomix Forum (http://www.forumthermomix.com/) shared this beauty with us all! I've adapted it slightly and here's my version...
1 litre milk
250g organic raw sugar
200g cream
1/2 teaspoon bicarb
Place all in TMX and program 40 mins, Temp Varoma Speed 4. Place basket on lid to allow it to evaporate without spitting.
When finished, quickly pour into jar and leave it to cool. When it cools it will be nice and thick. Keep in the fridge.
Can be used on cakes or as filling, or on pancakes. And I'm going to give it a go in this brownie recipe (http://www.chocolatesuze.com/2009/08/05/dulce-de-leche-brownies) sometime soon... Might also try a Banoffee Pie or maybe some yummy swirl ice-cream?
* this was copied from my cooking blog. I made some and it sat in the fridge for ages. Abby used some on some brownies, and I used the rest up in some ice cream last week. It was quite caramel-y. It lasted many weeks in the fridge (we aren't huge on sweets here).

Pasta sauce with mince, for sure. It even minces diced steak (or dice your own meat, then mince) if you want. Stroganoff and other saucey type recipes - meat or vego, curries - meat/chicken or veg, butter chicken (or potatoes), steamed chicken or fish (Asian style) with the veg, rice and sauce all done at once too, stir fries, pasta with sauce and veg and everything all in at once (start with the sauce, beeps half way, put the pasta in and set for another 10 mins, done - sort of like those packet pastas with sauce you take camping perhaps, but a whole lot yummier), risotto (of course - the star of the show I reckon). I like to do stir fry with an omelette in the varoma, served with rice (the garlic rice from the forum is yum)... What sorts of things do you normally eat? You should browse the cookbooks if you get a chance!

Just I'm wanting to start grinding flour, and we do have a hand-grinder for coffee but bugger that in the summer time! Oh, and about that ice ....
I'm sure someone can clarify in a more technical way :2lol but crushing ice is how you sharpen the blades. Something to do with metal memory I think?

The blades have a thermatic memory so crushing ice will pull the blades back into shape, effectively sharpening the blades.
Grinding flours is noisy, but easy as, and only takes 1 min.
Everyday things dishes (many of which Bel has mentioned)
- definitely pasta and pasta sauces
- risottos
- curries
- stir fry style veges
-salads and salad dressings
- porridge in the mornings
- baked beans
- custards for dessert or as sauces
- makes great sauces for topping on meat etc (gravies, white sauces etc)
- steam meatballs
- make fillings for filo triangles
once you get the hang of the machine, it is easy to convert your own recipes - especially ones that involved the stove and stirring. But you'll always find other ways to use it too, like cheese grating, onion chopping and sauteing, chopping herbs etc....
Book me for a demo!!!! You really gotta see it in action! Then decide if it is the machine for you....
I keep wondering what the next model will look like (don't worry, it isn't due out for another decade or so) but maybe it will connect to the internet. I find this model so functional and fine tuned that it will be interesting to see where they go with it.
Oh, and this came in an email (for the non thermomix owners, the thermie owners should have got this in an email)
Kitchen Innovation of the Year!http://www.newsletterfox.com/pix/pic_0386.jpgThermomix has been voted the number one kitchen innovation of the year in Europe. same here. Our bedroom is actually RIGHT off the kitchen. If i take two steps from the kitchen bench where the TMX is i am in the bedroom. Jordy would sleep though a rocket landing on the bed but Darcy wakes at every noise. I would have killed for an iced coffee the other night but did not want to risk it.
I think the noise is the one down side of the whole machine.
Kylie, simple meals... have a look at the menu plan thread cos there is lots mentioned in there... but so far i have done a potato and spinach curry thing, risotto, potato rosti cakes and ... can't think what i did the other night. There are lots of simple regular meals to cook in it. And i have not even used the steamer that comes with it yet so you could do even more with that.

Michelle, you have to try the creamy salami fettucini from the Everyday Cookbook. I do it with mushrooms, 'cos I don't eat salami, but it's delish. Has tomatoes in it, so you'd need to substitute there, but t'is very yum, quick, easy. I haven't just boiled pasta in it - I just use a pot for that.
I served wine at both my demos. Made loads of sales too. LOL
My friend had a demo yesterday and she has ordered hers already, and I think more were ordered from her demo.
The TMX grinds grain really well, Jodie - rice flour is my fave, amazing. But it's noisy for 30 to 60 secs! I've done wheat, spelt, oats, rye, rice (white and brown) and almonds. Don't think I've done chickpeas yet... Lentils whiz up real fine so cook in minutes (like less mins than usual).
I use mine more for other 'stuff' than for meals - rice milk, flours, smoothies, cheese-making, butter, etc. And still I use it for almost every evening meal, or part thereof. It isn't noisy when cooking, just when grinding/crushing.

we can trial the cocktails!
as far as i know you don't usually get to have cocktails at a demo. You just get food, very sad! :2lol [/QUOTE
Kylie, we can do a special demo for you ;)
[QUOTE=michelle_j_r;16657]with the pasta, i am not sure if i would bother doing actual pasta in it... the sauce for sure! but actually boiling the pasta.... ?? not sure.
I do cook pasta in mine all the time. I find it easy than in the big pot. It fits a whole packet of pasta, it times itself and the bowl is easy and quick to clean (I know it is easy to clean a pot, but the TMX gets cleaned cause it'll be in use again soon, while the pot often gets left there). What I usually do it cook the pasta sauce, pop that in the thermosever, then cook the pasta.
I can't wait to take this machine on holidays with us (camping - powered site) cause it'll do pretty much everything! I won't need to take saucepans, and we can fry things on the BBQ's provided :)

I'm not entirely sure, but I do believe that centrelink being the only source of income often results in a declined application.

I don't think I'd dare take it camping - wouldn't want to leave it in a tent :o
I am hoping to receive mine today, or tomorrow at the latest. Somewhat ironically, my DH is going to Melbourne today for the week (where the thing is shipped from) :( On the bright side, I can do my practicing while he's away, and just wow him with it when he gets back :D He wasn't particularly impressed with me wanting or ordering one (after talking AT him about it for quite a while ;) ) and he's never seen one in action, so it's probably better that I get some practice in first!
So.... it's just the girls and I. Miss 8 is still quite fussy, not liking to see bits of herbs, or have many flavours combined, while Miss 4 eats almost anything. What are we going to eat this week? Any suggestions?! I must confess :( within an hour of DH leaving for a breakdown callout (mechanic) last week, I was looking for the alcohol, so I suspect I'll be sharpening my blades a lot this week <blush> !

It's shipped from Perth I think, Deb?
I made the basics in the first week - coleslaw, risotto, grated cheese, rice milk, soups (it was winter), etc.

Kara said Melbourne. I think the whole financey part is Perth, that's what's on my card statement too.

Hi DePome
I hope you didn't have a bad TPW experience? I am a Manager but it is like any product, it can be a great product but if people don't know how to demonstrate it or do a bad job then it puts you off. OR was it just that it was too exxy? Let me know and if I can ever help I would love to. I also do clearance sales so really cheap so if you like the product but can't afford it PM me and I will send you my clearance sale stuff. No pressure of course!

I hope you didn't have a bad TPW experience?
Oh goodness, no, my purchasing just went too far :2lol. I implemented a self-imposed ban about two years ago due to lack of potential Tupperware cupboards! I had a passing deal with my self that I would only buy Tupperware if I sold some first, but I just stopped buying instead :) I have all of the tools that I want from them, and a lot of things that I haven't ended up using as much as I thought, so I need to sell them on really as they are just occupying valuable space.

Ok that is good to hear!!! You can imagine the temptation i have! I have to put a ban on MYSELF or else I would end up with wanting everything (and i did that initially before we were nearly snowed under!).
Let me know how you get on with the TMX! happy practising!

23-11-2009, 08:28 PM
well Kara, I work now.. not a huge income.. so maybe.. could you ask for me?
~kaoss~
23-11-2009, 09:32 PM
It's not something I can ask about. It is up to a finance company that is separate from Thermomix. It is up to them what is able to be approved and what isn't. Some income is definitely good, not sure when it's not enough though. I just know that people who only have centrelink as a regular source of income often do not qualify.
Basically, you have up to 4 years to pay for it. Minimum repayment is $15 a week but you'd end up paying a lot in interest if you stuck to that. To pay it off in the 9 month interest free period you'd need to make weekly repayments of around $60 I think (you'd have to do the maths to be sure). There is no penalty for early payout, so if you got a lump sum of money from somewhere (e.g. tax return), you could pay of extra.
If you want to find out, I suggest you go through the application process. It isn't that hard. It's really the only way to find out if you'd be accepted or declined.
Most machines are dispatched from Melbourne, though if people order extra cookbooks at the same time they order the machine, it is dispatched from Perth (where head office is). Does that answer that question :)
So, I have succumbed afterall and been in touch with the local demonstrator. Will book a demo when she gets back from her holidays. Am I heading down a slippery slope or what?!?

Verrrrrrrrrrry slippery. We just did 2 trays of ice cubes and a whole pineapple in ours early this evening. Whizz and drink. YUM. The pineapple was peeled of course.
You'll need more ice cube trays. Op shops have a kazillion of the things, brand new looking.

i need more ice trays.
My machine keeps coming up with error 55 when i try to use the scales. Spoke to my regional consultant and ended up burning the crap out of my fingers when testing to see if it was heating up ok (two big blisters on my knuckles to prove it! Idiot! When the 100'C light is lit then the friggin thing will be 100'C der!). I hope they can fix it without a major drama. The last thing i want to do is send it in to be serviced cos i need to cook in the thing! argh!

I took my mum and her sister out to lunch today and a whole bunch of seniors who knew my aunt came in and sat at a nearby table. Two friends came over to our table to tell Aunt about this brilliant new cooker demonstration they'd attended this morning, how it made sorbet, cooked risotto and ground wheat into flour and then made a bread dough. "Can't remember what it's called, but it's absolutely brilliant!" they said with such excitement.
I rolled my eyes, "Was it called a Thermomix?"
"Yes, that's it!"
Gawd, I can't get away from them! And it's pretty obvious that by the time the oldies have caught on, you've well and truly missed the bandwagon. ;)

Definitely Bel :) Can't say it will necessarily save me a lot of money, because of the way that I cooked before, but it's got me making things that I haven't made for a while because of the ease. There's stuff in the fridge again like mayonnaise, lemon butter, tomato salsa etc. I am glad I'm not on tank water though :o

i am really glad i got mine. I debated for ages because, seriously, it's friggin expensive and it's not like i have cash falling out of my pockets! :2lol but even if you ignore the fact that i honestly believe i will make that money back in a year or two the lifestyle benefits are incredible.
The simple things i can make now from scratch that mean the kids are now eating fresh juices and smoothies every day and the peanut butter it makes is so peanutty it's just lovely, and simple pasta sauces and stocks that make a quick dinner totally delicious, and we make some rather special sorts of cakes or cookies or whatever every couple of days so even though i don't have spare cash to be spending $5 on a coffee and another $6 on a piece of cake when i go to town (something i used to enjoy) i can now make a brilliant iced coffee and have a piece of my own cake for hardly any comparitive cost and i still feel like my life is full of luxuries.

You just sign a form to say they can take it from your credit card over 3 months. So first month it's $700-and-something, then $600 the next month, and $600 the next month. And it's paid for! And you're so, so happy to be cooking with a Thermomix it doesn't sting one bit when they take those subsequent $600 payments from you in month 2 and 3. :p
