Hi, I received this email through uni and thought it may be of interest to some here :)

Hi beautiful breastfeeders and breastfeeding supporters

I'm writing to let you all know about a new book initiative about Breastfeeding Older Children in the hope that some of you might be willing to participate in Ann's survey and/or fwd this email along to any other mothers who would be supportive of Ann's work.

Ann Sinnott, whose 15 yr old daughter self-weaned at the age of six and a half, is writing a book (publisher: Free Association Books www.fabooks.com) about sustained breastfeeding. She would like mothers who are currently breastfeeding or have breastfed child/children to 3 years or older, to complete a questionnaire (link located on her website) http://homepage. ntlworld. com/ann.sinnott/ index.htm<http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ann.sinnott/index.htm>

With a background in health journalism, Ann Sinnott's aim is to challenge the ignorance, prejudice and fear surrounding this natural and essentially healthy practice. Drawing on both scientific research findings and parental narratives, the book will appeal to parents, health professionals and all those with an interest in child development.

Questionnaires have so far been returned from: Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Channel Islands, Croatia, England, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hawaii, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Norway, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, USA and Wales.

All over the globe, in ever-increasing numbers, mothers are electing to sustain breastfeeding. This is an opportunity for long-term breastfeeding mothers to stand up and be counted and help create change: the greater the number of participants in this survey, the greaterthe potential to influence opinion, and transform attitudes.

Good to see that someone has defined "breastfeeding older children" as three years. Usually "long term feeding" is anything over 12 months. While my second two children self-weaned by 18 months, I certainly considered them to still be babies at that age - not too old at all!

Ha... I'd love to read it, as I'm breastfeeding a 5 & 3 year old (and a 9 month old...)

Hopefully she has come out on the side of it being incredibly nurturing etc, than the side which thinks we are child molesters!! :gasp

I was hoping that too, but wonder what she means by this:

‘Breastfeeding Older Children’ is not the book I originally envisaged. It’s shape and content changed over time as I was carried away from planned areas into the unplanned, and my curiosity took me even further. Not everyone will like every aspect, but I hope everyone will find some worth in its pages.

It would be really nice to have Ella see another child her age feeding. It's a shame you don't live closer Bee.
