  2. You don't always cry with tears.

    I had a sudden realisation (while pondering in the shower) that people don't always cry with tears.

    I have been struggling with maintaining a compassionate and validating response to my seven year olds recent challenging behaviour. I wasn't seeing past the "behaviour" to him underneath so I was gulping down rushes of annoyance and even hot flushes of anger and the guilt was chewing me up. Until the thought popped into my head...he's crying, not with tears, with behaviour! ...

    I have a secret power and with it I can see beyond what is.
    Admittedly I'm still practising, experimenting with it!
    I'll probably never get it right or manage to perfect it's use but when I feel it working it's breathtaking.
    It allows me to see beyond "behaviour" or circumstance & enjoy my children, my life, no matter what.

  4. Being An Angry Penguin

    Apologies to all penguins but being an angry penguin best sums up my week. It seemed everywhere I turned this week I found a reason (or excuse) to be shocked and outraged!
    Flicking on the "Sunrise" program while getting dressed for the day exposed me to 5 mins of such complete twaddle I was gobsmacked. Yet another baby "expert" was on plugging her offering on, yep you guessed it, sleep training. We were reassured by the glowing endorsement of one of the breakfast presenters ...

  5. Does anybody need another blog post about the London riots?

    No.
    But one thing was painfully obvious to me.
    Those that hurt property and people had one thing in common, they lacked empathy. They had no capacity to imagine another human being's pain. That sort of disconnection is established in the first three years of life. Lack of love, lack of soothing, lack of security, lack of attachment to a central carer that they can trust.
    If you are going to bring a child into the world teach them to love by loving...simple.
    So let's face ...
